TOPEKA, KS – An unarmed homeless man was arrested early Monday afternoon after allegedly trying to hold up a central Topeka credit union.
According to the Topeka Police Dept., the man went into the Azura Credit Union, in the 1100 block of S. Kansas Ave., around 1:10 p.m. and demanded money. He reportedly had no weapon at the time.
An off-duty Topeka Police officer who was working security at the time took him into custody.
He was taken to the Shawnee Co. Dept. of Corrections where he will be booked for robbery, police say.
Authorities have not released his name.
The FBI has joined the Topeka Police Dept. in the investigation.
